GOST 7798 Hex Bolt
The Russian standard bolt is manufactured in strict accordance with GOST (State Union Standard) specifications, which govern the dimensional, material, and mechanical requirements for fasteners used across Russian and CIS markets. These bolts are designed to meet the demanding needs of heavy industry, infrastructure projects, and construction applications where reliability and performance are critical. The GOST system encompasses multiple standards including GOST R 52644 for high-strength structural bolts, GOST 7798 for hexagon head bolts with coarse thread, and GOST 7805 for hexagon head bolts with fine thread, providing a comprehensive framework for fastener selection across diverse engineering applications.
The GOST hexagon head bolt features a classic six-sided head design with a standard or heavy hex geometry, providing excellent torque transfer and ease of tightening with standard wrenches. These bolts are available in a wide range of metric thread sizes from M5 to M64, with various thread pitches and shank lengths to suit different connection requirements. The hexagon head is precisely forged to ensure proper wrench engagement and resistance to stripping under high torque. These bolts are widely used in steel structure connections, bridge construction, industrial machinery, oil and gas pipelines, power generation facilities, and heavy equipment manufacturing across Russia and other former Soviet Union countries.
As a High strength GOST bolt, these fasteners are manufactured from specialized alloy steels such as 30KhGSA (30ХГСА), 40Kh, or 38KhS, which contain chromium, manganese, and silicon to achieve exceptional mechanical properties. Through precise heat treatment—including quenching and tempering—these bolts achieve property classes ranging from 8.8 to 12.9, with minimum tensile strengths up to 1220 MPa. They are designed for preloaded structural connections requiring high clamping forces and are essential for ensuring the integrity of critical infrastructure under extreme operating conditions. These bolts often require matching high-strength nuts (GOST 22354) and hardened washers (GOST 22355) to complete the bolting assembly. Various surface finishes are available including plain (black), zinc-plated, hot-dip galvanized, and phosphate-coated, providing protection against corrosion in different environmental conditions.
